Quote

I'm reading the book, Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller. Here's a quote that I read today that I thought was great....

"I believe the greatest trick of the devil is not to get us into some sort of evil but rather have us wasting time. If he can sink a man's mind into habit; he will prevent his heart from engaging God."

It's so easy to go through the motions...go to church every week. Even as a member of the church staff...I have tasks that I need to accomplish in any given week. I don't want to follow God just because it's what I've done for so long. I want to follow God because I have faith and passion.

A morning with friends

We went out to McConnell's Springs today and met my friend Megan and her son Jeremiah. McConnell's Springs is where Lexington was first settled and it's just a pretty wooded area with a paved path that does a big loop through the property. So we took the kids in the strollers and did a couple of loops and then let the little monkeys play in the outdoor ampitheater. Fun for all! It's fun to watch Katelyn watching Jeremiah. Jeremiah is two and is running and jumping. You can just see Katelyn trying to figure out how she can do those things too! (uhh ohh)
Kateybug was particularly cute with her pigtails and bows. She just loves exploring outside. Rocks and dirt...hooray!Of course we had to eat lunch when we came home and after inhaling all that I gave her, she gave me a great big smile. Now she's taking a big old nap...so all is well for mama. I actually ate lunch without sharing my food. Whoo hoo.

Moving, moving, moving....

After just a couple of weeks of walking it is AMAZING how fast this kid is already. She never stops...always in motion. It's getting harder and harder to get fun pictures of her because she won't stay still long enough for me to take them (thus the reason why this first pic is a bit blurry...but it's just so cute.)Katelyn is getting so big. I just can't believe how much she's changed in the last four months. She has SO much personality. Such a little character.
It always seems like she's running somewhere...I'm not sure where she's going...I think she's just so happy she can GO!!!
Look at her with a chunk of food in her mouth with that hip swished over to the side. She's a mess!
Katelyn just hasn't been into using the sippy cup (and I have 1/2 a dozen different kinds, hoping that she'll figure out how to use one of them). But today she actually drank from one of the sippys. She's still figuring it out and I think she slobbered more down the front of her shirt than she took in...but hey, I'll take it!
Oh, and the pig tails are my FAVORITE thing ever!!!!
Now that Katelyn is moving so much she's sleeping 12 hours a night and taking a three hour nap in the afternoon. WHOO HOO! No more 6am. She's gotten up at 8 the last three mornings! Thank you Jesus!!!

Katelyn is 14 months!

Katelyn is 14 months old (as of Sunday)! I can't believe how big she's getting and everyday she figures out how to do something new. About a week and a half ago she decided that she was ready to walk. She had been cruising all over the place, barely holding on to the furniture and then last Saturday she just decided to launch. She's SO cute toddling all over the house. Every one said, "Oh just wait until she starts walking, she'll be into everything." And yes, you have to keep a closer eye on her, but she can do more for herself, is not as frustrated and sleeps longer because she burns so much energy. I actually love that she's walking!Do you just love her crossed leg. She's so sassy.
This girl loves her afternoon snack. Don't even think about skipping it!!!Katelyn's pink blanket has become an essential part of sleep times. She was never interested in a pacifier, but sucks on the corners of this blanket just the same. Getting it away from her long enough to wash it is a challenge. Yuck.
Grandpa came this weekend for a little visit...sorry Grammy, we really missed you...and Katelyn put "pa pa" right to work reading the whole stack of books over and over. And of course grandpa would never say no to that.
In the past couple of days Katelyn figured out how to crawl, how to get herself into sitting position and how to pull herself up to standing position using the furniture. Like I said she's kind of figured out everything backwards (walk first and then sit up, go figure), but she's getting it all together now.

Just some fun at the park

We love the little park just up the road from our house. It's great to see Katelyn get more and more adventurous. I just wanted to give you a peek of her playing hard.

Things I Like...by Katelyn Grace

I know I'm only 13 months old, so you can hardly believe that I can type and everything...but hey, I'm pretty smart. Mommy needed a break, so I thought I would update this blog so that she could rest. :) I miss grammy and grandpa and I wanted to make sure they saw what I had been doing. It's not as fun without them here!
I like watching my Baby Einstein videos. Today I watched the one about colors. That crazy blue guy that comes on with the green balloons really cracks me up. Daddy was trying to take a little nap before he went to work, but I really like my daddy, so I sat with him while he rested. He didn't even drink a bottle before his nap...I don't know how he fell asleep. Uncle Jason and Aunt Doris were here for a couple days this week. They're really nice. They played with me, took me to Cracker Barrel for breakfast (I had the oatmeal...and some other stuff off everyone else's plate. It was delicious!). They brought me a sock monkey. I think it's cute. I like mommy a whole lot. We're buddies. Last night we hung out together. She takes me lots of places and pushes me around in my stroller. Sometimes she gets kind of crazy with her camera and won't stop taking my picture. She say's I'm so cute. Lots of people say that. Hey, I'm just a kid...I just want people to play with me. Mommy sings wheels on the bus. I like that song the best.
I really like to read books. I have lots of them and I read every one of them every day. I've learned how to turn the pages so now I read to myself. I'm a big girl you know.
I still like it when other people read to me too...so sometimes I'll bring them one of my books. Mommy just bought me this book about Elmo on the farm. It's real good. I like farms. Animals are awesome. They make all kinds of sounds. The cow says moo. I like Elmo. He's funny and he wiggles as much as I do.
I like to make some crazy faces. It seems to make everyone laugh so I keep doing it. Every once in a while I make a new face, just to keep everyone on their toes. Look at all my teeth!
I like to play peek a boo. Mommy keeps asking where I am. I think I'm tricking her when I cover my eyes. I must be really good at that game.
I like Aunt Diane. She gave me this cool toy. It's some kind of bottle with these little popcorn pieces in it. I don't understand why daddy calls it my redneck rattle. I just like that it makes so much noise. I shook it real load today while daddy was taking a nap. I don't think he likes my toy as much as I do.

I like to play outside and mommy said we're going to the park after I take a nap today. It's really blue out with big puffy clouds and it's not so hot. I can't wait to go on the swings. I didn't like them at first, but now I do. I really like to eat mulch. Mommy won't let me though. She keeps saying that it's yucky. I don't think she's even tried it though. I think she should taste it. She might like it.

Okay...I have to go night night now. Mom said. But our house is really quiet....except for Brody barking...I keep telling him no no and shaking my finger at him like mommy does. I think someone else should come play with me. Oh, daddy's friend Joey will be back in a couple days. He's like a big kid. He's going to Iraq soon so I'm going to go fishing with him while he's here.

Talk to ya later!
